200 Chinese break ECQ protocols

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — At least 200 Chinese were arrested for allegedly violating enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) protocols in Quezon City on Monday.

Members of the city government’s Task Force Disiplina accosted the Chinese, who were in front of the Hi-Precision Diagnostics laboratory in Barangay Sto. Domingo at around 10 a.m.

Task force chief Ranulfo Ludovica said they went to the area after residents sought their help over the presence of a large number of Chinese, some wearing personal protective equipment or PPE, who were queuing in front of the diagnostics laboratory.

“They were lining up to have swab tests for their flight back to China,” he said in a phone interview.

Based on their investigation, the Chinese were workers of a Philippine offshore gaming operator firm. They were fined P5,000 each for their offense, Ludovica said.

He said the Chinese disregarded basic public safety guidelines such as observing social distancing protocols.

“Based on their gestures, they were extremely arrogant,” Ludovica said.

Ludovica said they have recommended the closure of the diagnostics laboratory for failing to maintain order among its clients.
