Pasay public hospital’s COVID-19 beds full

Ghio Ong, Ralph Edwin Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Beds for COVID-19 patients at the Pasay City General Hospital (PCGH) are now full, the hospital chief said yesterday.

In a statement, PCGH officer-in-charge Dr. John de Gracia said all eight intensive care unit beds and all 28 regular beds for COVID-19 patients are occupied.

He noted that 12 of the 20 COVID-19 transition room beds are in use.

“There are still six confirmed cases at the COVID-19 transition ward waiting to be transferred to our COVID confirmed ward,” De Gracia said, adding that there are still five probable cases at the hospital emergency room waiting to be admitted into PCGH’s transition ward.

He also said that some hospital employees are just given makeshift beds so they “would not be using beds for regular patients.”

Since Monday, De Gracia said 15 frontliners at the PCGH tested positive for COVID-19.

Taguig hospital nearing capacity

Also yesterday, the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital is nearing its capacity, with 79 out of its 100 beds occupied.

The city government said while Metro Manila recorded a daily average of 169 active cases in a population of 100,000, Taguig logged only 30 active cases.

Mayor Lino Cayetano vowed that the city government would strengthen its testing and contact tracing capabilities to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

Health centers in the city’s 28 barangays have started conducting COVID-19 swab tests twice a week, wherein residents could contact them for scheduling, he said.

Drive-through COVID testing at the Bonifacio Global City and the Lakeshore facility in Barangay Lower Bicutan every Wednesday and Friday and the “park ‘n test” program at the Vista Mall parking building every Monday would continue, Cayetano said.

As of Friday, Taguig has recorded a total of 13,728 confirmed cases with 13,297 recoveries, 185 deaths and 300 active cases.
