More soldiers deployed vs BIFF bandits

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — An Army contingent from Luzon will be deployed in Central Mindanao to assist the 6th Infantry Division (ID) in its campaign against members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.

The BIFF is tagged in bombings and other attacks in Maguindanao, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat.

Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, 6th ID commander, said the first batch of soldiers arrived yesterday.

Around 10,000 families have been displaced in clashes between soldiers and BIFF men in Maguindanao since March 18, leaving 14 militants dead.

“This group is trying to create the impression that it is still capable of perpetrating terror attacks after the surrender of many of its members in recent months,” Uy said.
