BI warns of new scam

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration yesterday reiterated its warning for the public to beware of scammers posing as BI employees on Facebook and other social media sites.

The reminder stemmed from a complaint by an Indian student regarding a person who posed as an immigration hearing officer, Commissioner Jaime Morente said.

“We conducted an investigation and saw that there were many similar complaints in the past about this fake lawyer who introduced herself as a certain Lisa Perez Tubban,” he said, adding that the scammer used the photo of a contractual BI employee as her profile photo.

Morente said Tubban presented herself as a fixer who can process the papers of foreign students. Under current BI rules, only school representatives may process applications in behalf of foreign students.
