CIDG probes kidnap victim’s link to investment scam

MANILA, Philippines — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is looking into the reported involvement of alleged kidnap victim Patrocenio Chiyuto in an investement scam.

CIDG director Maj. Gen. Albert Ferro said yesterday they are checking the businessman’s background following the arrest of six of his alleged kidnappers on Thursday.

“We will conduct an investigation and hope that the investment scam victims make an appearance,” he said in a text message.

Six persons, including a police officer, were arrested in Makati and Parañaque on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping Chiyuto. They face charges of serious illegal detention and kidnapping.

There have been reports the victim has duped an undetermined number of persons in the Visayas in a fraudulent investment scheme.

Chiyuto has not surfaced after with the arrest of his supposed kidnappers.
