DOJ warns jobseekers of new scam

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice warned the public yesterday of a new scam that uses the DOJ’s communications division to dupe online job applicants.

The scam involves sending emails to potential victims, offering jobseekers the service of an “identity history check” for P49,000, according to Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar. The scammers claimed the identity history check is needed for an employment certificate of registration.

Villar said the DOJ started receiving reports about the scam last October and similar reports on March 11 prompted the agency to post a notice on its website.

The DOJ does not offer an identity history check service and has informed the Office of Cybercrime, she said, and called on recipients of such emails to report them to the OOC at [email protected] or 8524-8216 for immediate investigation.
