MANILA, Philippines — A police precinct commander in Manila was relieved from his post yesterday for failure to deploy more personnel during the first day of the localized lockdown in the city.

Remedios police community precinct chief Lt. Cris Duque was sacked for failure to secure two hotels in Barangay 699, which were placed on lockdown, according to Manila Police District (MPD) director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco.

The hotels – Malate Bayview Mansion and Hop Inn Hotel – were locked down due to rising cases of COVID-19.

MPD acting public information office chief Lt. Col. Roberto Mupas said Duque’s relief showed Francisco’s resolve to ensure police visibility to curb the spread of the virus.

Barangays 351 and 725 were also placed on lockdown until March 14.

The city government distributed food items to the residents affected by the lockdown.
