Another cop dies of COVID-19 infection
MANILA, Philippines — A 54-year-old policeman has died due to aggravated health complications caused by COVID-19 infection, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Sunday.
The police officer, a member of the Intelligence Group, reportedly died of cardiogenic shock precipitated by cardiomyopathy.
His infection led to his fatal heart condition, according to the PNP Administrative Support for COVID-19 Task Force.
The number of COVID-related deaths in the PNP stood at 32.
The PNP recorded 28 new cases of COVID-19 among police personnel nationwide over the weekend.
Most of the cases came from the operational support units with 11 and regional police offices with 10. The national administrative support units posted four cases while the national headquarters had three.
As of Saturday, the PNP registered 11,641 cases of COVID-19 with 11,059 recoveries and 550 active cases.
Police personnel with COVID-like symptoms were advised to coordinate with the PNP Health Service.
