Navotas extends city hall lockdown

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco has extended for another week the closure of the city hall after more employees contracted COVID-19.

Sixty-three employees of the city government tested positive for the virus during another round of swab tests, bringing to 83 the number of infected workers.

This prompted Tiangco to extend the lockdown until March 9.

He ordered city hall employees to adopt a work-from-home arrangement.

Tiangco urged those who tested positive for the disease to undergo quarantine and follow other safety protocols.

“Any unofficial activity outside their homes during office hours will be construed as loafing,” he said.

The lockdown of the city hall building and its annexes was enforced to prevent the virus from further spreading.

Select employees were ordered to disinfect the city hall.

The Navotas Centennial Park was also locked down. Public markets and grocery stores in the city are closed every Monday for disinfection.

As of Feb. 28, there were 6,086 cases of COVID-19 in Navotas with 5,582 recoveries and 193 deaths.
