The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least 50 resorts in the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte will open today after the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases authorized the reopening of the island to tourists.

Tourism is the main industry in Samal, which has more than 160 resorts spread out all over the island that is believed to be as big as Singapore in terms of land area.

Samal Island is under modified general community quarantine for the entire month of March.

Among those permitted by the IATF to resume operation in Samal are the Buenavista Island Resort, Camp Holiday, Pearl Farm Resort, Samal Holiday, Secdea Beach Resort and Hotel, and other establishments deemed to have met the required standards set by health authorities.— Edith Regalado
