MANILA, Philippines — Former Cavite governor and congressman Erineo Maliksi died yesterday. He was 82.

Maliksi’s son Emmanuel, mayor of Imus town, confirmed his father’s death in a post on Facebook, but did not give details.

Maliksi started his political career as vice mayor of Imus from 1980 to 1986.

He served as congressman from 1998 to 2001 and 2010 to 2013 and governor from 2001 to 2010.

Maliksi was appointed chairman of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office from 2013 to 2016 during the administration of former president Benigno Aquino III.

”I was disheartened to hear the news of his demise. This pandemic has caused the demise of so many political giants. When you look at his life, you see one well-lived, truly and constantly in service of our countrymen,” Aquino said.
