DOT seeks IATF nod for Intramuros family day

Catherine Talavera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) will seek the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) for the holding of a family day in Intramuros to allow visitors of all ages to enter tourist attractions in the walled city that has reopened to the public.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said she would recommend to the IATF a one-day exemption for children below 15 years old to visit Intramuros.

Puyat said several visitors, mostly families, were unable to enter tourist sites in Intramuros because of age restrictions.

On Wednesday, Intramuros reopened Fort Santiago, Casa Manila Museum and Baluarte de San Diego to visitors aged 15 to 65.

Puyat said they were surprised to see visitors lining up with children during the opening day.

“I will ask the IATF for one day when the whole family can go to Intramuros,” she said.

The DOT wants the age restrictions lifted for Intramuros and Rizal Park visitors.

The IATF has allowed the limited opening of tourist attractions such as parks, heritage sites and historical landmarks in areas under general community quarantine.

The Intramuros Administration said 100 people at a time would be allowed to enter Fort Santiago and Baluarte de San Diego.

Only 15 people or five persons per group at a time will be allowed to visit Casa Manila Museum.
