MRT-3 chief dies of COVID-19
MANILA, Philippines — Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) general manager Rodolfo Garcia died on Wednesday night, almost two weeks after contracting COVID-19. He was 77.
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade announced on Jan. 28 that Garcia had been in the intensive care unit after the MRT-3 official tested positive for the virus.
MRT-3 director for operations Michael Capati along with 42 employees of the agency also contracted COVID-19.
Capati has recovered from the viral disease, Tugade said.
“The entire Department of Transportation condoles with the bereaved family of General Garcia. Our thoughts and prayers are with you,” the DOTr said. “We acknowledge him for sharing his expertise, knowledge and leadership. We recognize his untiring effort to improve the state of the MRT-3.”
Garcia, a retired police general, had also served as MRT-3 director for operations.
In July last year, the MRT-3 was hit by a COVID-19 outbreak after 200 workers tested positive for the virus.
