MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard will hire 5,500 personnel this year, PCG Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. announced yesterday.

Of the number, Ursabia said 4,000 personnel would be deployed to various PCG offices while the rest will be assigned to the Bureau of Customs.

The Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management will train the PCG recruits in its facility in Bagac, Bataan, according to Ursabia.

Meanwhile, the PCG recognized yesterday Jefferson Cayabo, a seaman, for returning a wallet containing around P53,000 left by a Japanese at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
