Cop shot dead in Pangasinan
SUAL, Pangasinan, Philippines — A police officer was shot dead by unidentified assailants in this town yesterday morning.
Cpl. Reynald Reyes, 29, was on his way to work when he was killed in Barangay Poblacion.
Reyes, a member of the Cordillera police’s Special Weapons and Tactics unit, was initially thought to have figured in an accident.
Nurses at the Sual Primary Care Infirmary where Reyes was declared dead on arrival found gunshots to the head and leg of the victim, according to case officer Sgt. Rennon Mislang.
Reyes was wearing his uniform and driving a motorcycle when he was killed.
Meanwhile, three men tagged in the ambush on a former governor of Pangasinan were arrested in San Juan, Batangas on Sunday.
Armando Frias, Albert Palisoc and Benjie Resultan, all of Urbiztondo, Pangasinan, were reportedly behind the ambush on former Pangasinan governor Amado Espino Jr. in San Carlos City in 2019.
Espino’s security aide and driver were killed in the attack.
The suspects, who were included in the list of most wanted persons in Ilocos region, had standing arrest warrants for murder, frustrated murder and attempted murder as well as illegal possession of firearms and falsification of public document.
Probers said they recovered handguns, ammunition, a fake driver’s license and a car from the suspects.
