Charges eyed vs tourists over fake swab test results
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) is looking at the possibility of filing charges against Boracay tourists who were found with fake RT-PCR or reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test results.
“The local government is filing a case, but we’re still looking if the DOT can also file because they really should learn their lesson,” Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said recently.
Six tourists were reported to have entered Boracay with fake RT-PCR test results. Three of them were found positive for COVID.
Puyat said the local government should have denied entry to tourists without verified RT-PCR test results.
“That group of people that faked test results, they tried to go to this hotel, they were not allowed to enter. They could not show a verified RT-PCR,” Puyat said.
Malay acting Mayor Floribar Bautista earlier said the local government would pass a resolution declaring as persona non grata anyone found using a fake RT-PCR test result to enter Boracay.
