1 dead in warehouse fire

MANILA, Philippines — An employee of online shopping firm Lazada died in a fire that broke out at its warehouse in Las Piñas yesterday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) identified the fatality as Jolie Ann Banday, 25.

The fire started at the first floor of the two-story warehouse, located at the corner of Marcos Alvarez and San Antonio streets in Barangay Talon Singko, at around 8 a.m., according to a spot report of the BFP.

The fire, which spread to the second floor, reached second alarm at around 8:06 a.m., put under control at around 10:04 a.m. and put out at around 3:30 p.m.

Police said four other persons were in the warehouse during the fire, but noted that no one was reported injured.

Authorities said the cause of the fire and the amount of property damage have yet to be determined.
