2 NPA leaders killed

MANILA, Philippines — Two ranking members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Cagayan Valley and Surigao City were killed in alleged shootouts with police officers in the past two days.

Renato Busania of the NPA’s regional operational command was killed in Agustin, Isabela on Tuesday.

Busania had pending warrants for double murder issued by courts in Isabela and Quirino, according to Cagayan Valley police director Brig. Gen. Crizaldo Nieves.

In Surigao City, Cecel Nuñez, 59, fired at police officers who tried to arrest him, also for double murder, in Barangay Trinidad at around 1 a.m. yesterday, Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., Caraga police director, said.

Caramat said Nuñez was with the NPA’s Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee. – Ben Serrano
