Quezon City donates P100 million for EDSA busway ramps

QUEZON CITY, Philippines The Quezon City government donated P100 million for the construction of elevated ramps along the EDSA busway, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benjamin Abalos Jr. said yesterday.

Mayor Joy Belmonte had requested the MMDA to reopen U-turn slots along EDSA to solve traffic gridlocks.

The Departments of Transportation (DOTr) and Public Works and Highways (DPWH) also provided funding to build the elevated bus ramps, according to Abalos.

“We are coordinating with the DOTr and DPWH to address traffic woes caused by the U-turn slot closures along EDSA,” he said.

Abalos said the elevated bus ramps would allow motorists to use U-turn slots.

Last year, the MMDA closed several U-turn slots along EDSA, which caused traffic jams along the highway and other major thoroughfares in the metropolis.

Meanwhile, Belmonte and Abalos led the clearing operations at the Balintawak market yesterday.

The MMDA chief called on barangay officials to clear roads of obstructions.

Belmonte assured Abalos that the city government would continue to require vendors to comply with the national government’s directive on road clearing.
