QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Quezon City residents with unpaid real property taxes no longer have to pay interest and penalties if they settle their liabilities on or before March 31.

In a statement on Friday, Mayor Joy Belmonte said she approved the measure granting residents relief from the payment of interests on real property tax liabilities and delinquencies on land, building, improvements and machineries.

Taxpayers must accomplish the amnesty application form and pay the delinquent real property taxes either in full or by installment basis before the set deadline.

In approving the ordinance, Belmonte said the city government recognizes the long-term financial impact of COVID-19 on citizens.

“We will continue to provide compassionate support for all our residents and businesses who are still feeling the effects of COVID-19 on our economy,” she said.

Meanwhile, real property owners who pay their taxes for 2021 on or before March 31 can also avail of the 20 percent discount, added the city government.

Other relief measures recently implemented in Quezon City include the extension of business tax payment from Jan. 20 to April 20; waiver of the surcharge and interest for delayed payment of the last three quarters of business tax last year; and the suspension of the new schedule of fair market values as basis for the computation of real property tax on land until December 2022.
