Go calls for better protection for minors
MANILA, Philippines — There should be a comprehensive, whole-of-nation approach to stop the online sexual exploitation of children during the pandemic, Sen. Bong Go said yesterday.
“Poverty is not a reason to sell one’s soul. We should guide children to prevent them from resorting to illegal activities just to survive,” he said.
Go said he filed Senate Bill 1650 in 2020 to amend a provision in Republic Act 7610, the anti-child abuse law, and increase the prison term for persons engaging in lascivious conduct with minors under 12 years old.
He also filed SB 1649, which seeks to modernize the Bureau of Immigration and prohibit the entry of sex offenders and foreigners convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude or suspected to be engaged in human trafficking.
Go earlier called on authorities to look into reports of some Filipino students selling their lewd photos and videos online to support their needs during the pandemic.
