Mild quakes hit Luzon, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines — Earthquakes rocked parts of Luzon and the Visayas in the past two days, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Tremors with magnitudes of 3.6 and 3.5 struck southwest of San Jose de Buenavista, Antique at about 2:46 a.m. and 2:47 a.m., respectively, yesterday.

Both quakes were felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in San Jose de Buenavista.

A magnitude 3.5 quake struck 10 kilometers southeast of Capoocan, Leyte at about 12:19 a.m.

It was felt at Intensity 2 in Capoocan and Carigara in Leyte.

Phivolcs said a magnitude 5.1 temblor rocked Burgos, Ilocos Norte on Tuesday night.

The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 9:38 p.m., was located 54 kms northwest of Burgos. The quake was felt at Intensity 2, also in Burgos.

Phivolcs warned the public of aftershocks from the magnitude 5.1 tremor.
