LPA dissipates but still rainy
MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area off Mindanao dissipated yesterday, but rainy weather is still expected over the eastern section of the country due to the tail-end of a frontal system.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the weather system would bring moderate to heavy rains over Samar provinces.
Light to moderate to at times heavy rains would prevail over the rest of Eastern Visayas, Bicol, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte until today.
PAGASA reiterated its warning against floods and landslides.
The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will experience light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
Davao and Soccsksargen will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains due to thunderstorms.
In Camiguin, five barangays in Mambajao town were submerged in floodwaters yesterday due to continuous rains.
Capt. Arnold Gaabucayan, Mambajao police chief, said around a hundred residents evacuated their homes. – Gerry Lee Gorit
