MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau warned the public against flooding and landslides as the low-pressure area spotted off General Santos City and the tail-end of a frontal system dumped more rains over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao yesterday.

As of 3 p.m., the low-pressure area was located 160 kilometers southeast of General Santos City.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the weather system was less likely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours.

PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains would be experienced over Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas and Caraga. Light to moderate to at times heavy rains will prevail over Bicol and the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will continue to bring light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Authorities reported that many areas in Eastern and Northern Samar as well as Southern Leyte were impassable due to flooding and landslides yesterday due to heavy rains.

Among the affected areas are Borongan City, Oras, Arteche, Jipapad, Maslog, Can-avid, San Julian and Lawaan in Samar.

Catarman, Allen, Palapag, San Roque and Pambujan in Northern Samar were inundated while the national highway in Silago, Southern Leyte was impassable.
