MANILA, Philippines — An alleged leader of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) wanted for muder was arrested in Quezon City on Wednesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported yesterday.

Allan Morales was apprehended by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and soldiers in Barangay Payatas B at around noon, PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said.

Lawmen served a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Sisinio Virtudazo of the Regional Trial Court Branch 4 in Tagbilaran City for the crime of murder.

The suspect reportedly yielded a fragmentation grenade, a KG9 submachine gun, a .45 caliber pistol and eight barrel assemblies for an M4 assault rifle, police said.

According to Sinas, Morales is the deputy secretary of the Committee of the Negros-Cebu-Bohol-Siquijor of the CPP.

He also allegedly held several other posts in various organizations affiliated  with the CPP in the Visayas region.

Morales was brought to the CIDG head office at Camp Crame in Quezon City. He is facing separate charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives because of the weapons found in his possession.
