Diarrhea kills 1, downs 33 in Davao Occidental

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — One died while 33 others were hospitalized due to diarrhea in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental over the weekend.

In a post on social media, Mayor Jason John Joyce yesterday confirmed the report and asked for immediate supply of intravenous fluid or dextrose and other medicine.

Joyce said most of the cases were recorded in Barangay Butuan on Saturday, which he said could have been due to food or the water source in the community.

He said the municipal government is verifying the number of residents affected by the diarrhea outbreak.

The patients are recovering at the Tomas Lachica District Hospital. Local officials said the outbreak has been controlled.
