Makati hits 10,000 COVID-19 cases

MANILA, Philippines — More than 10,000 people in Makati have been infected with COVID-19 as 2020 drew to a close, according to data from the city government.

As of Dec. 31, 2020, the city government recorded 10,096 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 9,415 patients recovered, 308 active cases and 373 deaths.

Barangay Pembo has the highest number of active COVID-19 cases with 31, followed by East and West Rembo with 29 each; Bel-Air, 26; San Antonio, 21; Pio del Pilar, 19; Bangkal, 17; Rizal, 16; Poblacion, 14; and Olympia, Cembo, Comembo and Guadalupe Nuevo with 10 each.

Meanwhile, posh Barangay Forbes Park and Barangays Kasilawan and Post Proper Northside have no active case.

The city government reminded the public to wear face mask and shield and observe physical distancing and frequent handwashing to avoid catching the coronavirus.

The city government is enforcing an ordinance that could punish residents not wearing a face mask and shield while outdoors with a fine of up to P5,000 and up to six months in jail.
