NPA leader killed in Northern Samar
MANILA, Philippines — A New People’s Army (NPA) leader was killed in an encounter with government troopers in Barangay Happy Valley, San Isidro, Northern Samar on Monday, the military reported.
The fatality was identified only as Apple, said to be the secretary of an NPA committee in Eastern Visayas.
There was no reported casualty among personnel of the 43rd Infantry Battalion.
The military said soldiers also overran an NPA camp in the area, which can accommodate 60 persons and has 30 bunkers, two sentinel posts, three comfort rooms, a kitchen and a mess hall.
Several firearms, a cellular phone, two bottles of dextrose and subversive documents were recovered at the scene.
Another NPA camp was seized at the Lumoton mountain range in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday.
