Angat Dam hits critical level
BUSTOS, Bulacan, Philippines — Continuous heavy rains in the past three days have pushed the water level in the Angat Dam to its critical level, the National Power Corp. announced yesterday.
Dam operators were compelled to open Angat’s spillway gate to release water and bring it down to a safe level.
Opening the spillway gate will help maintain the stability of the dam, authorities said.
As of 1 p.m. yesterday, Angat’s water level was at 216.13 meters, higher by 4.13 meters than its normal level of 212 meters during the dry season, and by 6.13 meters during the wet season, Raul Agustin of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office told The STAR.
