Taguig cop nabbed for shaking down drug suspect
MANILA, Philippines — A police officer was arrested for allegedly extorting P15,000 from a drug suspect in Taguig City on Wednesday night.
S/Sgt. Carlo Sison, a member of the Taguig police, was apprehended by agents of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) in Barangay Napindan, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas.
“The PNP disciplinary policy does not offer any compromise with willful acts of breach of discipline, misconduct and corruption,” Sinas said in a statement.
The operation stemmed from the complaint of a drug suspect, who told probers that Sison asked for money in exchange for removing his name from the narco list.
“It turned out that Sison was using the scheme to extort money from civilians. We are investigating if he had victimized other people prior to his arrest,” IMEG director Col. Thomas Frias said.
Sison was placed under arrest after he received the marked money from the complainant.
Sison was brought to the IMEG headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City on charges of robbery and extortion.
The policeman also faces dismissal from the service since extortion is a grave offense.
