MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area spotted off Northern Samar will continue to bring heavy rains over Southern Luzon and Northern Samar until today, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

The weather system was located 25 kilometers off Catarman as of 3 p.m. yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The agency said the low-pressure area was forecast to bring light to heavy rains over Bicol, Calabarzon, Marinduque, Romblon, Mindoro and Northern Samar.

PAGASA said the weather system has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression even as it warned the public of flash floods and landslides due to heavy or prolonged rains.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes and Babuyan islands until today.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains due to thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
