Laws upgrading hospitals signed

MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has signed seven laws upgrading hospitals.

The laws increased the bed capacity and upgraded the facilities and services of the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City from 425 beds to 700 beds, Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center in Las Piñas City from 200 to 500 beds, Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City from 500 beds to 1,000 beds and Quirino Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City from 500 beds to 1,000 beds.

The President also signed a law expanding the services of the Malita District Hospital in Davao Occidental and upgrading the Siargao District Hospital in Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

A law establishing the Bicol Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Pamplona, Camarines Sur was also signed.

The government is increasing and upgrading health facilities in the country to strengthen its capacity to fight the coronavirus disease 2019.

The Department of Health has recorded more than 400,000 confirmed COVID cases in the country.
