MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday released P7.98 billion in Christmas bonuses and cash gifts to its personnel.

PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said the money was released by the Finance Service and already credited to the individual payroll accounts of the police force’s 215,571 officers and personnel.

“However, payment of bonus is deferred for personnel with administrative cases, especially those serving suspension,” he said in a statement.

Also yesterday, a 62-year-old non-uniformed personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) died of COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at the Makati Medical Center.

PNP spokesman Gen. Ildebrandi Usana said 26 of their personnel have succumbed to the disease.

A total of 7,892 PNP members have contracted COVID-19, with the addition of 20 more cases according to the police force’s latest
report. Of the number, 7,470 or 94.65 percent have recovered.

The regions that reported new cases are Metro Manila with four; Calabarzon, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga peninsula and the Cordilleras, two each; and the Ilocos and Central Luzon, one each.

Six other patients are from various operational units of the PNP.

Usana said 396 PNP members still infected with the virus are recuperating in hospitals and quarantine facilities.
