Vargas Bridge closed for repair
MANILA, Philippines — Starting tomorrow, one lane of Vargas Bridge in Pasig City will be closed to traffic due to retrofitting works, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced yesterday.
The closure of the outer lane of the eastbound direction of Vargas Bridge in Barangay Bagong Ilog will start at 6 a.m.
The 36-year-old bridge needs retrofitting after a portion of the expansion joint was damaged, the MMDA said.
The agency said the girder supporting the 140-meter structure needs to be strengthened to avoid further damage and to ensure passengers’ safety.
All trucks will be diverted to Ortigas Avenue, the MMDA said.
Motorists are advised to take alternate routes.
Eastbound vehicles may take Eagle street from C-5 to Dr. Sixto Antonio. Motorists may also take the Kaginhawaan Bridge, the MMDA said.
