Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA)-Zamboanga peninsula regional office is on heightened alert for the entry of hogs infected with African swine fever (ASF) amid reports of infection in Iligan City.

The DA regional office through its Zampen ASF task force imposed stricter protocols in the handling and transport of pork and pork-based products, according to the city mayor’s office.

The measures were adopted during an emergency meeting called by the DA task force and various stakeholders.

Among these measures are the ban on the importation of pork and  processed pork from ASF-hit countries and areas in the country as well as the ban on the entry of handcarried pork and processed meat.

Zamboanga peninsula remains ASF-free.
