12 NPA rebels surrender in Misamis

Michael Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Twelve New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered in Claveria, Misamis Oriental, the Philippine Army announced yesterday.

Maj. Alex Mindalano, Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) chief public information officer, said three teenagers and leaders of the NPA’s North Central Mindanao Regional Committee are among the surrenderees.

Mindalano said the surrender led to the discovery of an arms cache of the rebels.

He said sustained military operations convinced the rebels to surrender.

Eastmincom chief Lt. Gen. Jose Faustino Jr. cited the support of barangay and local government officials in the campaign against communist insurgency.
