Lightning kills boy, 13

ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines — A 13-year-old boy died after he was hit by lightning in Barangay Boalan in this city on Thursday.

Initial investigation showed Grade 7 student Andrey John Araneta was supposed to pick up his learning modules from his classmate in Sitio Tala when lightning struck while the victim and his companion were seeking shelter under a tamarind tree.

Araneta was declared dead on arrival at the Mindanao Central Sanitarium General Hospital.
