MANILA, Philippines — Police commanders should ensure the safety of their personnel helping in disaster response preparations for Typhoon Rolly, an official said yesterday.

Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, Philippine National Police (PNP) deputy chief for administration, instructed police officials to ensure that their personnel and their respective families are secure in their areas of responsibility.

“As warned by the experts, this will be a strong typhoon so we also have to ensure the safety of our personnel in the areas that would be directly hit by Typhoon Rolly,” he said in a statement.

“Those who are conducting community-level patrol should also actively play a key role in advising and assisting the residents, especially those living in coastal areas and danger zones, to evacuate and move to safe places,” Eleazar added.

Eleazar likewise urged residents in areas in Luzon expected to be hit by the typhoon to take extra precautions.

The police official said the strict enforcement of quarantine rules to curb the spread of COVID-19 will continue in areas that will be affected by the typhoon.

The PNP has readied its equipment and food banks in Luzon for relief efforts.
