MRT-3 suspends weekend shutdown

MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) would remain open during this weekend instead of being shut down for maintenance works, an official said yesterday.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade allowed the MRT-3 to postpone the scheduled shutdown from today until Nov. 2 “to protect MRT-3 workers who would take part in the (maintenance works)… as a precautionary measure for the possible landfall of Typhoon Rolly,” the rail line said in an advisory.

The MRT-3 personnel would supposedly perform bushing replacement, including fixing the bus tie that supplies power to the depot, and replace turnouts – which guide trains to switch tracks – at the Taft Avenue station.

The rail line said it would announce another date for the maintenance works.
