Magnitude 5 quake hits Batangas
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5 earthquake hit Mabini, Batangas yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tectonic quake, which had a depth of two kilometers, was recorded nine kms southwest of Mabini at around 1:25 p.m.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4 or moderately strong in Mabini, San Luis, Lemery, Rosario, Agoncillo, Calatagan, Balayan, Bauan and Sta. Teresita in Batangas as well as in Tagaytay City, Alfonso and Amadeo in Cavite.
It was felt at Intensity 2 in parts of Metro Manila, such as Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Navotas, Malabon and Pasay, and Laguna and Quezon.
Phivolcs said aftershocks with magnitudes of 4.4 and 2.3 were recorded two hours after the quake.
The magnitude 4.4 aftershock was felt at Intensity 4 in Calatagan, Batangas and Intensity 3 in Tagaytay City.
