Fuel tanker hits 70 bollards on EDSA
MANILA, Philippines — A wayward fuel tanker plowed into at least 70 steel bollards along the EDSA-Shaw Boulevard underpass in Mandaluyong City at past midnight yesterday.
Police took into custody truck driver Ronald David, 40, who is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property.
Mandaluyong police chief Col. Hector Grijaldo Jr. said the accident occurred along EDSA’s southbound lane in Barangay Highway Hills at around 12:30 a.m.
Quoting a police report, Grijaldo said the truck veered to the left and hit the bollards that the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority placed as a separator for the lane reserved for commuter buses and emergency vehicles.
The truck came from Caloocan City and was headed to Batangas province when the mishap occurred, the police official said.
David surrendered to the police immediately after the incident. He claimed he lost control of the steering wheel because of a blown-out tire.
