LTFRB to open 52 more jeepney routes

Romina Cabrera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will open 52 more routes for traditional jeepneys and UV Express units in Metro Manila.

The LTFRB said 30 routes for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and 22 routes for UV Express units would be allowed to resume operations starting on Sunday.

The LTFRB has allowed 1,704 additional PUJs to operate, bringing to 28,720 the total number of jeepneys plying Metro Manila streets in 322 routes.

There were 4,327 UV Express units allowed to operate in 98 routes in the National Capital Region.

The LTFRB said the opening of additional routes is part of the Department of Transportation’s directive to implement Oplan AIR (Add routes, Increase speed/capacity, Reduce travel time) as the country reopens the economy amid the pandemic.

The transport regulatory body reminded jeepney operators and drivers to strictly follow health protocols such as wearing of face masks, shields and social distancing measures.
