Quakes jolt Eastern Visayas, Nueva Vizcaya
MANILA, Philippines — Earthquakes rattled parts of Eastern Visayas and Northern Luzon yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 4.8 quake struck seven kilometers southwest of Kawayan, Biliran at about 3:32 a.m.
The quake was felt at Intensity 5, which is classified as strong, in Kawayan and Almeria towns in Biliran and Intensity 4 or moderately strong in Naval, Cabucgyan and Biliran towns in Biliran and Calubian, Tabango, Capoocan and Leyte in Leyte.
The temblor was felt at Intensity 3 in Carigara, Kananga, Palompon, Batbangon and Barugo in Leyte and Intensity 2 in Alangalang and Pastrana in Leyte, Catbalogan and Pagsanghan in Samar and Tacloban City.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 3.5 quake hit 12 kms southwest of Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya at about 11:34 a.m.
It was felt at Intensity 3 in Baguio City.
Phivolcs said no damage or aftershocks were expected from the quakes.
