Roel Pareño, John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Eleven people were rescued when a boat capsized due to strong waves while traveling from Sitangkai to Bongo in Tawi-Tawi on Monday.

Brig. Gen. Samuel Rodriguez of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police said the rescued passengers were turned over to local officials in Simunul town, where their boat was also towed.

Police and Coast Guard personnel are searching for four passengers of another boat believed to have sank in the waters off Simunul.

In Sulu, five fishermen were rescued while another remains missing when their boat capsized off the coast of Luuk town last week.

Rear Admiral Erick Kagaoan, Naval Forces Western Mindanao commander, said the fishermen are residents of Barangay Tanjung in Indanan.
