BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Four New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas surrendered to the military in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental yesterday.

The rebels were identified as Jone Alfuerto, alias Dim; Deito Ferolino, alias Mar; Snooky Mejio and Rodrigo Fat.

Alfuerto and Ferolino are former members of the NPA’s Special Partisan Unit under the Leonardo Panaligan Command, according to Maj. Cenon Pancito, spokesman for the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division.

Mejio and Fat are members of the NPA’s Yunit Militia.

The rebels also surendered two handguns.

Guihulngan Mayor Carlo Joan Reyes lauded the four for deciding to abandon the revolutionary movement.

Reyes said he is expecting more rebels to leave the communist movement, noting he received several surrender feelers in the past few days.
