Magnitude 5.4 quake jolts Oriental Mindoro
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Looc, Oriental Mindoro before dawn yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake, which occurred at about 4:06 a.m., had a depth of 33 kilometers.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4, which is described as moderately strong, in Tagaytay City, Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro and Calatagan, Batangas and Intensity 3 in Makati City and Quezon City.
It was felt at Intensity 2 in Floridablanca in Pampanga, Malabon City, Marikina City, and Meycauayan, Bulacan.
Five aftershocks of the quake with magnitudes ranging from 2.9 to 2.5 were recorded yesterday.
Phivolcs said no damage was expected from the quake, but warned the public of more aftershocks.
