11 Abu Sayyaf bandits surrender
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Eleven Abu Sayyaf bandits surrendered in Jolo yesterday.
The surrenderees, who were followers of Mundi Sawadjaan and Radullan Sahiron, yielded to Col. Antonio Bautista Jr., commander of the 1101st Brigade at Camp Bautista, according to Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, Joint Task Force Sulu and 11th Infantry Division commander.
Gonzales said the former Abu Sayyaf members, who were not identified for security reasons, yielded seven firearms, mostly M16 and Garand rifles.
The surrender was facilitated by personnel of the 41st, 100th and 11th Mechanized Infantry Battalions of the Municipal Task Force on Ending Local Armed Conflict of Patikul, Maimbung, Indanan, Talipao and Pata towns.
“The returnees will undergo a social integration program managed by the local government units and Joint Task Force Sulu,” Gonzales said.
Last week, 144 Abu Sayyaf surrenderees each received P15,000 in livelihood assistance.
Gonzales said 344 Abu Sayyaf bandits have surrendered since 2017.
