9 Basilan villages submerged in floodwaters

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Nine barangays in Lamitan City, Basilan were submerged in floodwaters following heavy rains on Thursday.

The city social welfare office said 2,015 families in low-lying areas evacuated their homes.

Lamitan City Mayor Rose Furigay said relief assistance has been provided to the affected families.

Furigay said damage to agriculture and infrastructure due to flooding has yet to be assessed.
