P10.8 million smuggled cigarettes seized off Zamboanga del Sur

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Navy men have intercepted a fishing boat carrying smuggled cigarettes worth P10.8 million off the coast of Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur.

Rear Adm. Erick Kagaoan, Naval Forces Western Mindanao commander, said members of the Naval Intelligence Security Group aboard the BRP Jose Loor Sr. patrol vessel launched the operation last week.

The fishing boat Normay and its seven crewmembers, which came from Kalingalang, Sulu, were escorted to the Pagadian City pier, where the smuggled cigarettes were unloaded and turned over to the Bureau of Customs for disposition.

Kagaoan said the boat was loaded with 307 master cases and 94 reams of assorted smuggled cigarettes, an inventory completed on Wednesday showed.
