Suspect in mayor’s slay killed

MANILA, Philippines — The alleged mastermind in the kidnapping and murder of a town mayor and his son was killed in a joint police and military operation in Cebu City on Sunday night.

Denis Rodinas reportedly resisted when authorities were about to arrest him in Barangay Pong-ol Sibugay, Cebu City.

Rodinas, a wanted New People’s Army guerrilla, was tagged in the murder of former mayor Dario Otaza of Loreto, Agusan del Sur, and his son Daryl.

The murder happened in Butuan City five years ago, according to Maj. Eduardo Precioso Jr., public information officer of the military’s Central Command.
